Introduction
Today, we are going to learn a new technique for making soy milk with a twist. In this video tutorial, we will be showing you how to make soy milk with a double layer of tofu skin, also known as yuba. As a bonus, we will also be incorporating a skincare routine by applying the excess yuba onto our faces while making soy milk. This technique is inspired by a Japanese method where they use yuba as a facial mask, and a Korean method where they apply soy milk onto their skin for its moisturizing benefits.
Ingredients Needed
- 200g of dried soybeans
- Water for soaking and blending
- 2L of water
- Some yuba sticks (optional)
- Honey or sugar for taste (optional)
- Your favorite facial cleanser and moisturizer for after-mask care (optional)
Preparing the Soybeans and Yuba
1. Soak the dried soybeans in water for at least 8 hours or overnight.
2. Rinse the soybeans under running water and remove any impurities.
3. Blend the soybeans with 2-3 cups of water until it turns into a smooth paste.
4. Place a muslin cloth over a large bowl and pour the soybean paste onto it.
5. Squeeze out as much soy milk as possible from the paste using the muslin cloth.
6. Boil the soy milk in a pot over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom.
7. While waiting for the soy milk to boil, prepare the yuba sticks by soaking them in water until they are soft and pliable.
8. Once the soy milk comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low and start scraping off a layer of yuba from the surface of the milk onto a plate.
9. Continue to do this until you have enough yuba to cover the top and bottom of your soy milk.
The Double Layered Soy Milk with Yuba
1. Take a small bowl and place it upside down into a larger bowl.
2. Place the yuba skins onto the bowl, ensuring it covers the entire bowl.
3. Pour the soy milk onto the yuba skin until it fills up the larger bowl and covers the smaller bowl.
4. Repeat the same process of layering yuba skins onto the surface of the soy milk until it forms a double-layered yuba skin cover.
5. Let the soy milk cool down before carefully removing the small bowl from the center.
6. Serve the soy milk as is or add honey or sugar to taste.
7. Enjoy!
The Yuba Facial Mask
1. Once you have removed all the yuba skins from the soy milk, place them onto a plate.
2. Gently apply the yuba skins onto your face and neck, ensuring it covers all areas except for your eyes and mouth.
3. Let the yuba sit on your face for about 15-20 minutes.
4. Rinse off the yuba with warm water, followed by your favorite facial cleanser.
5. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.
6. Apply your favorite moisturizer onto your face and neck for optimum results.
Conclusion
There you have it, a new way of making soy milk with a twist, and also a skincare routine to go along with it. This technique not only incorporates the health benefits of soy milk and yuba, but also the added bonus of skincare. Give it a try and see the results for yourself!
